How do you feel about current farming industries? Do you feel safe with the food you eat? Everyone has different opinions on this topic. Some people are passionate about their health and food choices. Others simply do not care. If people fully understood food processes and what they are actually putting in their body, they might feel differently this matter. One easy way people could educate themselves is by watching documentaries. One good suggestion is the movie Fresh. This movie is short, but is still able to fully develop several aspects of farming. They focus on sustainable farming, but also develop the opposing side. This movie is very educational, understandable, and good for everyone to watch.

Documentary Science Films: Fresh (2009) | Redpath Museum - McGill University

The purpose of the movie Fresh is to educate the public on how recent agricultural industries are producing food, and how sustainable farming is a better production option. The tone used in the film is passionate but not aggressive. This is an appealing tone because it shows that they truly care about sustainable farming, but they do not want to appear intense and offend people. Throughout the movie, the film producers develop and show many different farmers' backgrounds. In doing this, they show how pertinent the issue is. This is helpful because, in showing different types of farmers and their farms, the audience gets a well-rounded view of sustainable farming.

At the beginning of the movie, the producers show moments behind the scenes in mass production industries. This can be very surprising and upsetting to viewers, but ultimately works for good. Then they move on to show other farmers. One has had a farm his whole life, and came from a family of farmers. Another is a farmer that used to use modern mass-farming methods but, after an incident, decided to use more sustainable methods. This helps explain to the audience that there is a diverse range of sustainable farmers. It shows how people change, and that it is not just farmers that were raised this way who appreciate sustainable farming. Another farmer they focus on is an urban sustainable farmer. They show this aspect of farming because it teaches the audience that sustainable farming can also be done in highly populated areas. All of these aspects of the film help to develop how important their topic, sustainable farming, is.

In this movie, one can see that the creators did a thorough job of developing their persuasive arguments. Their tone, visuals and music all work together to create an appealing viewing experience. The movie is not completely one sided, so the audience is able to feel as though it is unbiased. For these reasons, this film is a good introduction to understanding the food industry. It is important for the public to understand what they are putting in their bodies. Watching and reading about food production and farming should be more valued so that people do not blindly eat what they see at the store. Doing so could be permanently damaging to their health. So, for people who would like to educate themselves on this matter, watching Fresh is a good place to start.

  1. HI Liberty, I have found your views on the fresh movie interesting and I liked on how you described the movie in your opinion. One things I liked in my opinion, was how you went on describing what the purpose of the movies was, the moments in it, and more. In the end, I can see what you are trying to write about and have found some things which I agree with you about.
