Entry #8. Breakfast Like a King
How often do you eat breakfast? Do you actually see the value of eating a substantial meal in the morning? I am sure you have heard the saying “Breakfast like a king; lunch like a prince; dinner like a pauper.” Breakfast is a very important start to the day. This may sound ridiculous to some. Many people these days do not take time to actually eat breakfast. They do not see its importance, and would rather wait until lunch time when they are much hungrier. Only 44% of Americans are said to eat breakfast every morning (Black EOE Journal.) That is much less then it should be. Breakfast is actually, despite people's lack of interest in it, a very important aspect of one's day. So let's get into it!
One reason eating breakfast is an essential part of the day, is because we need it to gain nutrients to take on the day. We need to eat to have energy for the day ahead of us. The reason why it is so important to eat first thing in the morning is because we have lost glycogen throughout our night's sleep, and that is what we need to mobilize ourselves (Better Health Channel.) After 12 hours of not eating, breakfast should be taken more seriously. If we do not eat in the morning we will be tired and groggy, and that is not the way to start the day.
Food also works in your body to produce more serotonin. Your apatite, mood, and sleep, in turn, is stabilized by this. So, it is said that eating breakfast makes you happier (Food and Friends.) Even though making breakfast takes time, spending that extra time in the morning to make food will help to elevate your mood. If someone would like to find ways to improve their happiness, having regular meal routines will help.
Eating in the morning also sets one up for a healthier lifestyle. By eating breakfast, a person's apatite is satisfied, and they do not feel the need to snack later on in the day. Because people gain more energy by eating in the morning (as mentioned before), they do not rely on energizer drinks and caffeine (Better Health Channel.) Omitting these drinks and snacks from your diet improves your health because you no longer consume so much nutrient deficient food.
Hopefully this information is helpful to you in your journey toward understanding. There is importance in the simple things. Breakfast might seem like an insignificant aspect to your day, but in truth, it has so much value. By eating in the mornings, your overall lifestyle will improve. You will feel healthy, happy, and energized.
